Sermon Notes 11/24/2024 “Who is My Neighbor?” James Farris

Who is My Neighbor?
25 And behold, a lawyer stood up to put him to the test, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” 26 He said to him, “What is written in the Law? How do you read it?” 27 And he answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.”

We know the story very well
We cannot truly understand the Lawyer’s response to Jesus’ description of the GOOD SAMARITAN.

Life Perspectives
“YOURS is MINE and I’M TAKING IT.”
“MINE IS MINE AND I’LL KEEP IT.”
“Mine IS YOURS & I’LL GIVE IT”

Can we draw a line? Love your neighbor as yourself
To justify SELF: you must limit the law
Willing to love the unlovable?
So really, who is my neighbor?
It is possible to REALLY live like that?

WE HAVE TO SEE THIS PARABLE AS A PICTURE OF YOU AND ME

START WITH: I’M THE ONE BEGGING GOD FOR HELP
Do you really see yourself as the “Good Guy” in this parable?

YOU NEED A “SAMARITAN”
Who was despised, hated and rejected, and saved you anyway?

We Need a Savior
